Cannabis taxes explained

Legal cannabis in California carries several taxes set by the state and local governments — not by Cannagram. Here's exactly what those line items are, so there are no surprises at the door.

State excise tax
A statewide excise tax applies to all retail cannabis sales in California. It's set by the state and collected on every order.
State & local sales tax
Standard California sales tax plus any district (county/city) sales tax for the delivery address applies, just like other taxable goods.
Local cannabis tax
Many cities and counties — including parts of the Sacramento area — add a local cannabis business tax on top of state taxes.
Calculated at checkout
Because rates vary by delivery address, your exact taxes are calculated and itemized before you confirm — and printed on your receipt.

The combined tax rate on a cannabis order depends on where it's delivered, since local sales and cannabis taxes differ from city to city. That's why we don't quote a single flat percentage — the precise amount is computed for your address and shown as separate line items on your cart and receipt.

These taxes are mandated by California law and remitted to the state and local governments. They are not fees Cannagram keeps. Tax rates can change as state and local rules are updated; the totals you see at checkout always reflect the current rates for your order.
